Polished concrete flooring in Stockton CA - a bright, hard floor from the slab you have
Plain gray concrete under old carpet or tile can become a smooth, bright floor that shows off the stone already in your slab.

Can the concrete floor you already have be polished?
Polished concrete flooring in Stockton takes the slab you already have, grinds it down and polishes it in stages into a smooth floor that reflects light, wears hard and is easy to keep clean.
Most of the calls I get for this come from people who pulled up carpet, tile or an old coating and found a slab they'd rather keep, or who want a shop or kitchen floor that takes a beating without anything laid on top. The price moves with the size of the floor, how much glue or old coating has to come off first, how many cracks and joints need work, whether the surface needs hardening and how much gloss you want, and the schedule turns on that same prep plus the test patch you sign off on before we polish the rest. If there's paint or sealer on the slab, stripping it off comes first. Once I've seen your floor, the written estimate spells out the prep, the repairs and the finish for your job.

I look at your slab
I come out myself, check the slab for moisture and old coatings, and ask how you use the room. You get a clear recommendation and a written estimate that lists the prep, repairs and finish, so you know what you're paying for before anything starts.
We prep, test and polish
Once you say go, we set a date and our crew handles the prep and polishing while I check the work along the way. Nothing gets polished wall to wall until you've approved the test patch.
We walk the finished floor
When the last pass is done, I walk the floor with you so you can see it in your own light. We go over anything you're unsure about before we call it finished.
How we do polished concrete flooring, and the finishes that go with it
The color and stone you end up seeing come from your slab, so the first thing we do is check how hard the surface is and run a test patch before we polish the whole floor. Concrete cracks in all but the smallest slabs, so finding some is normal, and we fill the joints, the cut lines across the floor, and repair cracks early so they don't fight the finish later. Then our crew grinds in passes from coarse to fine and polishes up to the gloss you picked. I'd rather spend the extra time on that early grinding and repair than rush to the shine, because the shine only holds up as well as the concrete under it. If I think your slab is too weak or too far gone to polish well, I'll tell you straight and suggest a different floor.
Polishing isn't the only way to finish bare concrete. If the gray of your slab isn't the look you want, stained concrete flooring adds color into the surface, and terrazzo flooring is the route when you want a designed pattern rather than whatever your slab happens to hold. I'll tell you at the estimate which one fits your floor.

Polished concrete questions from Stockton owners
How do I know if my existing concrete floor will polish well?
An existing slab polishes well when its surface is hard and sound, and a hardness test tells you that before the real grinding starts. Polishing a weak surface can mean lower gloss, a floor that doesn't last as long and more aggregate rollout, where bits of stone pull loose. Where the test shows a soft top, you can ask for a densifier, a hardening treatment, and if your slab needs one I'll put it in the estimate.
What color will my polished concrete floor turn out?
It'll be the color of the sand and stone in your slab, which was set when the concrete was mixed, poured and finished, so you plan around the slab you have. Color can shift as grinding opens up the stone, from a gray tone toward brown for example, and local stone varies, which is why a test patch on your actual floor comes first for your approval.
Is high-gloss polished concrete slippery?
A high-gloss polished floor isn't automatically slippery, because in published testing every result passed the required slip resistance level, even at very high gloss. Slip resistance in those tests changed with the gloss level, not with how much stone showed, so if you want more grip, gloss is the thing to talk about at the estimate.
How much does polished concrete flooring cost in Stockton, CA?
Polishing concrete across the US usually costs about $8 to $9 per square foot, and that's a national figure for the polishing, not a Stockton quote. Your price depends on your floor's size and what the slab needs before polishing, so I come out, look at it and give you a written estimate. We're based in Stockton and work across San Joaquin County and into nearby counties, including Lodi, Manteca, Tracy, Modesto and Elk Grove.
How do I keep concrete dust out of the rest of my house during polishing?
Plan which rooms stay closed off while we grind, because the state's guidance suggests enclosing the work or keeping people outside a perimeter around the dust. On our side, California's rules for grinding concrete require a dust reduction system on powered tools, and the state bars dry sweeping, so cleanup is wet sweeping or a HEPA vacuum, which has a fine-dust filter, wherever those can be used. We're licensed and insured, and you can ask any crew how it meets those rules in your home.
Can a raised concrete floor be polished, or only a slab on the ground?
Both can be polished, because the industry specification for polished slab finishes covers slabs on the ground and suspended slabs, the raised concrete floors in some buildings. The same checks on hardness, cracks and color apply either way, so I look at a raised floor the same way at the estimate.
Other ways to finish bare concrete
Stained Concrete Flooring
If the stone in your slab looks dull or patchy after a test grind, staining puts color into the concrete itself and still gives you a bare floor.
Terrazzo Flooring
When you want a set pattern of stone or glass chips that your existing slab can't show, terrazzo builds that look into a new polished topping.
Get a test patch on your slab
The patch shows you the real color and stone of your own floor before you commit, so have the room's size and what's covering it now ready when you call (209) 420-1084 or send a request.
