Terrazzo flooring in Stockton CA - a smooth floor built on a well-prepped slab
Tired of a plain, worn slab? We check what's under it, pick the right terrazzo system and pour a floor with real color.

Is terrazzo the right floor for your Stockton home or shop?
Terrazzo flooring is a poured floor of marble, glass or granite chips set in a resin or cement base, then ground smooth over your slab, and it gives you a hard floor in the colors you pick. Slabworks Concrete Coatings of Stockton installs it in Stockton, CA and across San Joaquin County, out to Lodi, Manteca, Tracy, Modesto and Elk Grove.
Most people who call about terrazzo have a slab that's plain, stained or tired, and they want a floor with color that holds up in a kitchen, an entry or a shop. The price moves with the size of the room, the system, the chips you choose and how much grinding and repair your slab needs, and the schedule turns on that same prep and the system you go with. You get your own price and my recommendation in the written estimate after I've seen the floor. Rules differ between the county and each city, so before we start we check with the office that covers your address, and if a permit is needed we take care of the application as part of the job.

Call or send a request
Call (209) 420-1084 or send the form, and we set a time for me to come out to your property. I'm the one who looks at the job and writes the estimate.
I look at your slab
I check the slab for moisture, old coatings, cracks and joints, and ask how you use the room. You get a clear recommendation on the system and a written estimate, so you know the full price before any work starts.
Our crew preps and pours
Once you say go, we set a date and our crew handles the grinding, repairs and install. I check the work along the way, not just at the end.
We walk the finished floor
When the floor is ground and polished, I walk it with you and we look it over together. That's your time to point out anything you want explained or looked at again.
How we install terrazzo flooring, and the prep behind it
I start every terrazzo job by finding out what's underneath, concrete or plywood, and where the joints and cracks run, because that steers which system I recommend. We're licensed and insured, and once you've picked a system our crew grinds the slab, repairs what needs it and lays out the divider strips before any chips go down, since I'd rather spend the time on prep than rush to the part you see. Grinding throws off water and dust, so we cover and protect the rooms and finishes around the floor first. Then we pour the base with your chips, let it set, grind it flat, polish it and clean up.
Prep decides how a terrazzo floor turns out, which is why concrete grinding and surface preparation is its own service with us, for slabs with old coatings, high spots or patched repairs. If the room you have in mind is downstairs, moisture is the first thing I check, and our basement flooring work covers the options when a lower level needs a different fix.

Terrazzo questions from Stockton owners
Which type of terrazzo is best for my floor in Stockton?
For most floors over a flat concrete slab, epoxy terrazzo is my first recommendation, and the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association calls it the best thin-set system. It also goes over plywood that's properly installed and prepared. Cement systems are thicker, and the association rates sand cushion terrazzo as the best of those, while monolithic cement terrazzo only goes on ground floors and lower levels and is only as flat and crack-free as the slab under it.
Can terrazzo go over a cracked concrete slab?
Often it can, as long as the plan accounts for the cracks and joints first. Most epoxy systems stick to the concrete, so divider strips have to sit right above the slab's joints, and a flexible membrane can be added to absorb some side-to-side movement at cracks and joints. If your slab isn't ready for terrazzo, I'll tell you straight and we'll talk about repairs first.
How much does terrazzo flooring cost in Stockton?
Your price comes down to the size of the room, the system, the chips and colors in the mix, and how much prep the slab needs before the pour. Grinding, crack repair and an added flexible membrane all raise it, and a sound, flat slab keeps it lower. Over the years, the association says epoxy terrazzo has the lowest upkeep cost because it doesn't soak up liquids, which is worth weighing if you plan to keep the floor a long time.
How long does it take to install a terrazzo floor?
Epoxy terrazzo goes in fastest, because it has the quickest time from pour to grind of the terrazzo systems, so you get the room back sooner. Grinding and repairs on the slab before the pour set the rest of the schedule, and I'll lay that out once I've seen your floor.
What causes a new terrazzo floor to look blotchy?
New terrazzo needs time to cure, and many colors look mottled for a while as it does. That blotchy look early on is expected, so I tell you about it before we pour, not after.
How do I clean and care for a terrazzo floor?
Wipe up spills as soon as you can, because that's the simplest way to keep stains and damage off the floor. Keep surface waxes and all-purpose sealers off it, since they can make terrazzo slippery.
Other work that often comes with terrazzo
Concrete Grinding & Surface Preparation
Old paint, glue or a worn sealer on your slab has to come off before anything new will bond, and grinding gets the surface flat and open.
Basement Flooring
A basement floor sits closer to ground moisture than the rest of your house, so it often needs its own coating plan before you finish the room.
